Speaker Stands
Speaker stands lift a standmount loudspeaker to the height the designer intended and hold the cabinet steady, clear of shelves and sideboards. Audio Lounge presents the stands Spendor makes for the Classic range, each sized for one loudspeaker, and the KEF S3 Floor Stand, made to partner the KEF R3 Meta. Ask the Wigmore Street team which stand suits your loudspeakers.

Why Height and Rigidity Matter
Spendor sizes each Classic stand so that the loudspeaker sits at the right height for a balanced sound from the listening chair, which makes the stand part of the design rather than an afterthought.
Rigidity matters as much as height in hi-fi speaker stands. Spendor describes the Classic stand as a rigid, open-frame, low-mass design, and KEF builds the S3 Floor Stand in aluminium for rigidity and stability. Bookshelf speaker stands also bring a loudspeaker out of the bookcase, so the cabinet can sit where the room and the listening position work best; the bookshelf and standmount speakers collection shows the models that benefit.
Spendor Stands, Sized Model by Model
Spendor builds one stand design in five sizes, for the Classic 100, 1/2, 2/3, 3/1 and 4/5. Four slim alloy pillars are tied together by two machined solid alloy hubs, stainless steel top supports carry the cabinet on clear polymer discs, and stainless steel spikes, adjustable from above and secured with lock nuts, meet the floor.
The finish is satin black, and Spendor designs and manufactures the stands in the UK. The Spendor Classic 1/2 stand partners the Spendor Classic 1/2 loudspeaker, and the taller Spendor Classic 3/1 stand the Spendor Classic 3/1.
The KEF S3 Floor Stand and the R3 Meta
KEF engineered the KEF S3 Floor Stand around the acoustic performance of the KEF R3 Meta, with an aluminium structure for rigidity and a pillar that can be loaded with inert filler for extra stability. Integrated cable management keeps the wiring out of sight, spike discs protect wooden floors, and KEF sets the height for correct driver positioning. Three finishes are available: Slate Grey, Mineral White and the Indigo Matte Special Edition.
Choosing the Best Speaker Stands
Begin with the loudspeaker: a speaker stand made for the model, as Spendor and KEF make here, arrives at the intended height with supports that suit the cabinet. Floor speaker stands of this kind also decide how the system meets the floor, through spikes or protective discs, and how neatly the cables run.
For another standmount model, Audio Lounge can advise on height, rigidity and finish, and on the hi-fi racks and wider hi-fi furniture that complete the room.
Questions About Speaker Stands
What are the best speaker stands for my loudspeakers?
The best speaker stands are the ones designed for your loudspeaker model, because height and fit are matched to the cabinet. Spendor makes a Classic stand for each of five Classic models, and KEF designed the S3 Floor Stand for the R3 Meta. For any other loudspeaker, Audio Lounge can suggest a stand of the right height and stability.
How tall should speaker stands be?
Tall enough to put the loudspeaker at the height the designer intended for the seated listening position. Spendor sizes each Classic stand to one model: 400 mm for the Classic 100, 425 mm for the 1/2 and 2/3, 575 mm for the 3/1 and 625 mm for the 4/5, all without spikes. The KEF S3 Floor Stand is 542 mm tall with the plinth.
Are these speaker stands UK-made?
Yes for the five Classic stands, which are designed and made by Spendor in the UK. For the S3 Floor Stand, KEF’s UK engineering team set the dimensions to place the R3 Meta at the ideal height for driver positioning.
Should speaker stands be filled or spiked?
That depends on the design. The pillar of the KEF S3 takes an inert filler for added stability, with discs under the spikes to protect wooden floors, while the Spendor stands rely on an open, low-mass frame with adjustable stainless steel spikes and clear polymer discs beneath the cabinet.
