A Lyngdorf Amplifier That Begins with the Room

Most amplifiers are judged on a test bench. The Lyngdorf TDAI-2210 asks to be judged in the room where the music is played, because that is where a recording either blooms or blurs. Lyngdorf Audio built this two-channel streaming amplifier around a single conviction, joining fully digital amplification, RoomPerfect room correction, network streaming and a television connection in one composed, matt black chassis that is designed and assembled in Denmark.

The result feels settled from the first track. Bass lands with weight rather than boom, voices hold the centre of the stage, and the whole presentation carries a sense of ease that invites one more album rather than a pause.

RoomPerfect and the Problem of the Room

Every room colours sound. Walls, windows, furnishings and floor each add an emphasis, most of all in the bass, where one note can swell in a corner seat and vanish on the sofa. RoomPerfect, the room correction developed by Lyngdorf, measures those effects with the supplied microphone and corrects them in the digital domain.

Calibration follows a clear path. The microphone first measures the favourite listening position, then gathers readings from around the room until RoomPerfect reports that the room is well understood. Two corrections follow: Focus, tuned to that chosen seat, and Global, which improves the balance throughout the space for music that accompanies an evening. Several focus positions can be stored, and either correction can be compared with the untouched sound at a tap of the screen.

Lyngdorf sets out to correct bass and imaging problems without flattening the character of a recording. In practice that means firmer, more even bass and a steadier stereo image, so familiar loudspeakers sound more like themselves.

Power Delivered with Composure

The amplification is fully digital, so music is never converted back to analogue before the speaker outputs. Up to 210 watts per channel stands ready for the most demanding passages, and the volume is set within the output stage, the more advanced approach Lyngdorf shares between the TDAI-2210 and the TDAI-3400.

The benefit is control at every level. Late-night playback stays clear and intimate, and crescendos open out without strain. There is no fan, so the amplifier works in silence, and a little free space around the chassis is all the ventilation the design requires.

Streaming from the Owner’s Own Accounts

A complete streaming platform is built in. Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and Qobuz Connect play straight from each app on the owner’s own account, while AirPlay 2 and Google Cast bring music from phones, tablets and laptops without extra hardware. As a Roon Ready device, the TDAI-2210 joins a Roon library directly, UPnP sharing reaches music stored elsewhere on the home network, and a USB drive plays straight from the rear panel.

Internet radio stations and podcasts arrive through airable, with favourites saved as presets that appear as dedicated inputs, and Bluetooth welcomes a guest’s phone at a moment’s notice. AirPlay 2 can also link several TDAI-2210 amplifiers for music in more than one room, playing the same album everywhere or a different one in each.

Television Sound and the Home Cinema

The HDMI eARC connection turns the television into one more source. Film soundtracks, concerts and sport travel from the screen to the main loudspeakers, and with CEC enabled the television remote adjusts the volume. The amplifier can even switch to the television input automatically as soon as sound arrives.

In a dedicated home cinema, a bypass setting hands volume control to a surround processor, so the TDAI-2210 can power and calibrate the front loudspeakers within a larger system, while a lip-sync adjustment keeps dialogue aligned with the picture.

Voicings and Personal Taste

Room correction makes the room behave; Voicings let the owner decide how the music should feel. A library of preset Voicings, beginning with a faithful Neutral setting, offers gentle shifts in tonal balance, and each input can carry a Voicing of choice, so late-night radio and a favourite playlist need never share the same balance.

For the more technically minded, custom Voicings can be built filter by filter, then exported and carried to another compatible Lyngdorf product. Bass, treble and balance controls sit alongside, and Intersample Clipping Correction adds headroom on the fly, so recordings mastered right up to the limit avoid clipping while the signal is processed.

One Slot, Two Optional Modules

A single expansion slot on the rear panel lets the TDAI-2210 grow with a system. The High-End Analog Module adds a moving magnet phono stage for a turntable, two further line inputs and a balanced XLR input, while the HDMI 2.1 Module adds two HDMI inputs and an HDMI output with eARC and CEC, so a games console or streaming box can pass video through to the screen.

The HDMI 2.1 Module can be ordered with a new amplifier or fitted to one already in use, and Audio Lounge can advise on the configuration that suits a particular room and system.

Touch, Dial and App

Daily use is refreshingly direct. A colour glass touchscreen shows the volume, the input, the Voicing and the RoomPerfect mode at a glance, a dial sets the level, and the Lyngdorf logo on the front panel signals standby and software updates. The supplied infrared remote works with no network at all, while the My Lyngdorf app for iOS and Android and a browser interface open every setting from the sofa.

A headphone output on the front panel turns the TDAI-2210 into a private listening station for the late evening.

The TDAI-2210 Within the Lyngdorf Range

Lyngdorf’s TDAI streaming amplifiers share RoomPerfect, and the differences lie in scale and refinement. The Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 is the most compact model and sets volume by digital attenuation, while the Lyngdorf TDAI-3400 offers considerably more power and a graphic text display. The TDAI-2210 sits between the two, sharing the more advanced volume technology of the TDAI-3400 in a medium-sized chassis that suits furniture or a desk.

A disc collection can join the system too: the Lyngdorf CD-2 CD player connects to one of the digital inputs of the TDAI-2210 for an all-Lyngdorf pairing.

About Lyngdorf

Lyngdorf Audio was founded in 2005 by Peter Lyngdorf, who had earlier established the HiFi Klubben retail chain and the DALI loudspeaker brand, as a research and production company in Skive, Denmark, in pursuit of what Lyngdorf calls absolute perfection in sound reproduction. Lyngdorf’s digital amplification grew from the Millennium, which Lyngdorf presents as the world’s first digital audio amplifier. RoomPerfect followed, a room correction system Lyngdorf counts among the largest patents in the audio business, and a collaboration with Steinway & Sons later produced the Steinway Lyngdorf systems. The TDAI-2210 continues that line, designed, assembled and tested for a full day at Lyngdorf Audio in Denmark. Explore the complete Lyngdorf range at Audio Lounge.

Questions About the Lyngdorf TDAI-2210

What is the Lyngdorf TDAI-2210?

The Lyngdorf TDAI-2210 is a two-channel integrated streaming amplifier from Lyngdorf Audio, designed, assembled and tested for 24 hours in Denmark. The amplifier delivers 2 x 210 watts into 4 ohms or 2 x 105 watts into 8 ohms and combines RoomPerfect room correction, built-in streaming, an HDMI eARC input for a television, a front headphone output and a slot for one optional module. A RoomPerfect microphone and an infrared remote are supplied.

How does RoomPerfect work on the TDAI-2210?

RoomPerfect measures the room with the supplied microphone and corrects the room’s influence on the sound. The microphone first measures the main listening position, then positions around the room until RoomKnowledge reaches at least 90%, with more than 95% recommended. The TDAI-2210 then calculates a Focus filter for the chosen seat, with up to eight focus positions stored, and a Global filter for the whole room. Bypass, Focus and Global can be compared at any time.

Which streaming services does the Lyngdorf TDAI-2210 support?

The Lyngdorf TDAI-2210 supports Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and Qobuz Connect, plus Apple AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Roon Ready playback, UPnP and DLNA libraries, music files on USB storage, Bluetooth, and internet radio and podcasts through airable with 10 station presets. The streaming player handles files up to 384kHz. Services such as Spotify, TIDAL and Qobuz play from the owner’s own account and subscription.

Can the TDAI-2210 connect to a television?

Yes. The TDAI-2210 has an HDMI 2.1 eARC input that accepts PCM audio up to 24-bit/192kHz from the television. With CEC enabled, which needs the network standby setting, the television remote can control the volume, and the input can switch over automatically when TV audio is detected. The optional HDMI 2.1 Module adds two HDMI inputs and one output with eARC/ARC, passing video up to 8K 50/60Hz and 4K 100/120Hz.

What do the optional modules add to the TDAI-2210?

The TDAI-2210 has one module slot, so one module is fitted at a time. The High-End Analog Module adds a moving magnet (MM) phono input, two single-ended RCA inputs and one balanced XLR input. The HDMI 2.1 Module adds two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output with eARC/ARC and CEC, and can be ordered with a new amplifier or fitted to an existing one. Audio Lounge can advise on the right configuration.

How does the TDAI-2210 compare with the TDAI-1120 and TDAI-3400?

The TDAI-2210 sits in the middle of the Lyngdorf range. The Lyngdorf TDAI-1120 delivers 2 x 120 watts and sets volume by digital attenuation. The TDAI-2210 delivers 2 x 210 watts with the more advanced volume technology shared with the Lyngdorf TDAI-3400, which delivers 2 x 400 watts, adds a graphic text display and accepts digital audio up to 32-bit/384kHz.

What are Voicings on the Lyngdorf TDAI-2210?

Voicings are sound-shaping filters that tailor the tonal balance to personal taste. The Lyngdorf TDAI-2210 comes with 14 presets, including a Neutral default, and a different Voicing can be assigned to each input. Custom Voicings combine up to eight filter sections, and single Voicings or whole sets can be exported and imported between compatible Lyngdorf products. Bass, treble and balance controls are available as well.

What inputs and outputs does the Lyngdorf TDAI-2210 have?

Inputs: two RCA analogue, three coaxial digital up to 192kHz, two optical up to 96kHz, USB-C up to 192kHz, HDMI eARC, USB-A for music files and updates, Ethernet, and an XLR microphone input for RoomPerfect. Outputs: left and right speaker terminals, one balanced XLR and one RCA output for a subwoofer or power amplifier, a coaxial digital output up to 96kHz, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a trigger input and output.

Can a subwoofer be added to the TDAI-2210?

Yes. In the Custom output mode the TDAI-2210 manages one or two subwoofers connected by RCA, XLR or digital, with a crossover between loudspeakers and subwoofers that defaults to 80Hz and can be adjusted. Distance settings align loudspeakers and subwoofers in time. A Preamp mode also lets the TDAI-2210 act as a preamplifier, streamer or RoomPerfect processor for separate power amplifiers, with the speaker outputs switched off.

How large is the TDAI-2210 and where should the amplifier be placed?

The TDAI-2210 measures 102mm high, 325mm wide and 300mm deep including connections, and weighs 4.8kg in a matt black finish. The amplifier has no fan and needs 2.5cm of free space on every side, on a firm, level surface rather than carpet. Lyngdorf describes the size as suited to furniture or a desk. The box holds the mains cable, remote control, owner’s manual and the RoomPerfect microphone with stand and cable.
