A Modernist Platform for the Whole System

The Blok Stax 2G is a modular hi-fi rack that treats furniture as part of the system rather than an afterthought. Blok set out to pair a clean, modernist outline with acoustic engineering kept discreetly out of sight, so a turntable, a streamer or a pair of monoblocks rests on a platform as carefully considered as the components themselves.

Designed and engineered at Blok’s headquarters in Rayleigh, Essex, the Stax 2G earned the EISA Best Product award for 2024-2025, with the judges singling out a design that unites isolation and resonance control with a smart, functional form. In the room, the effect is calm: equipment sits level and steady, and the rack itself recedes behind the music.

Two Collections, One Modular System

Blok supplies the Stax 2G as two ready-matched collections. The 3-Shelf Collection pairs the Base with two 170 shelves, a compact arrangement for a source, a streamer and an amplifier, while the 4-Shelf Collection places a 220 shelf above the Base for a taller component such as an AV receiver.

Every module is a shelf on two supports, which is why a Blok Stax hi-fi rack can grow with the system. Further shelves in 120, 170, 220 and LP heights join the stack later, and apart from the Base the shelves can be rearranged into any order. The Blok Stax 2G Shelf and the Blok Stax 2G Base are sold separately for anyone planning a rack from the first module.

Black Glass or Ash Plywood

Three curated finishes set the character of the rack. Black Glass / High Gloss Black pairs tempered black glass with gloss black supports, making the Stax 2G a glass hi-fi stand of real presence; Black Ash Plywood / Natural Walnut sets dark ash veneer against warm walnut; and Natural Ash Plywood / Satin White brings pale ash with exposed ply edges and crisp white supports.

Plywood joined the range with the second generation of Stax, chosen for high mass, load-bearing strength and a warmth that suits a living room, while glass carried over from the original design. Each finish is complete in itself, with glass shelves never resting on walnut or white supports, so the finished rack reads as one piece.

Isolation Built into Every Support

The acoustic engineering lives in the joints. Silicone isolation pads sit between each shelf and the supports and in the base of every support, with a density specified to a particular shore hardness by Monitor Audio Group’s acoustic engineers after many iterations. The aim is to stop vibration travelling from shelf to shelf, so each component works from a settled foundation.

Each support also conceals a flush rubber bung. With the bung removed, the hollow support can be mass-loaded with an inert acoustic material of the owner’s choosing, adding weight and damping where a heavier amplifier or a turntable benefits most.

Assembly Without a Visible Fixing

Blok’s design team drew the fixings out of sight and then designed the tools to match. The Blok Assembly Tool and the Height Adjustment Tool come in the box, the shelves bolt together without a screw head on show, and the finished Blok hi-fi rack keeps the uninterrupted lines that define the Stax look.

Once the rack stands in position, four adjustable feet bring the whole structure level, each turned with the supplied tool. Spikes come fitted for carpet and lift away for hard floors, where integrated rubber feet take over, so the same Blok hi-fi stand settles into any room.

Planning the Stax 2G Around Your Components

Each shelf height answers a kind of component. Slim sources and compact amplifiers sit comfortably on a 120, the 170 covers the broad middle of hi-fi electronics, from integrated amplifiers to streamers, and the 220 makes room for receivers and monoblocks. Leave an air gap around equipment that runs warm, and route connections through the cut-out at the rear of each shelf.

For a turntable with records close at hand, the Blok Stax 2G LP Collection combines the Base with a shelf sized for vinyl. Audio Lounge can help plan a configuration and finish for your room, and the wider hi-fi racks collection shows the alternatives side by side.

About Blok

Blok was founded in Saffron Walden, Essex, in 2003, and has spent more than two decades designing hi-fi furniture with the care normally reserved for the components themselves. The Stax range made the name, with minimalist lines that hide serious acoustic thinking. Today Blok belongs to the Monitor Audio Group, and every product is developed in-house by the group’s engineering and design teams under a Transparent Design Philosophy, which keeps each stage of development under the group’s own control. The second-generation Stax was designed and engineered at the group’s headquarters in Rayleigh, Essex, where performance, technology and design are meant to work as one. Questions About the Blok Stax 2G

What is the Blok Stax 2G?

The Blok Stax 2G is a modular hi-fi rack from Blok, sold at Audio Lounge as the 3-Shelf Collection or the 4-Shelf Collection. Each collection stands on the Stax 2G Base, with silicone isolation between shelves and supports, in three finishes: Black Glass / High Gloss Black, Black Ash Plywood / Natural Walnut and Natural Ash Plywood / Satin White. Blok designed and engineered the rack at Blok’s headquarters in Rayleigh, Essex.

What is the difference between the 3-Shelf and 4-Shelf Collections?

The 3-Shelf Collection combines the Base with two 170 shelves and stands 467 mm tall in glass or 475 mm in plywood. The 4-Shelf Collection adds a 220 shelf above the Base, reaching 697 mm in glass or 708 mm in plywood. Both share the same 602 x 402 mm footprint, so the choice depends on how many components need a shelf and how tall they are.

What load can each shelf of the Blok Stax 2G carry?

Each shelf of the Blok Stax 2G carries up to 40 kg. Blok uses 10 mm tempered glass for the black glass finish and 12.8 mm ash-veneered plywood for the black ash and natural ash finishes, both chosen for load-bearing strength and acoustic behaviour. Blok load-tested the shelves to breaking point before setting the rating.

Which finishes are available for the Blok Stax 2G?

Three, and each is complete in itself: Black Glass / High Gloss Black, Black Ash Plywood / Natural Walnut, and Natural Ash Plywood / Satin White. Blok does not mix finishes within a rack, so a black glass shelf never sits on walnut or white supports. Shelves and the Base come in the same three finishes, which keeps later additions matched.

Can more shelves be added to the Blok Stax 2G later?

Yes. Blok sells 120, 170, 220 and LP shelves individually, and apart from the Base the shelves can be stacked in any order. Blok describes the Base as supporting up to four shelves and recommends a maximum rack height of 1,100 mm for safety. The Blok Stax 2G Shelf page sets out each height.

How much space does each shelf give my equipment?

Every Stax 2G shelf gives a usable area of 480 x 387 mm in glass or 480 x 379 mm in plywood, measured to the start of the cable cut-out at the rear, within an overall footprint of 602 x 402 mm. Usable heights are 120, 170 and 220 mm for the standard shelves and 350 mm for the LP shelf. Blok advises leaving an air gap around equipment that runs warm.

Is the Blok Stax 2G suitable for carpet and hard floors?

Yes. The four feet arrive with spikes fitted for carpeted floors, and the spikes can be removed on a hard floor, where integrated rubber feet take over. The feet stand 22 mm with spikes or 14 mm without, and each foot adjusts in height with the supplied tool so the finished rack can be set perfectly level.

Can the supports be mass-loaded?

Yes. A rubber bung concealed at the bottom of each support can be removed so the support can be filled with an inert acoustic material of your choice. Blok gives the internal capacity per support as 0.7 litres for the Base, 2.2 litres for a 170 shelf and 3.0 litres for a 220 shelf. Filling is optional and adds mass and damping.

What comes in the box, and is assembly required?

Each collection includes the Quick Start Guide, the Blok Assembly Tool, the Height Adjustment Tool, four M10 bolts, four bolt caps and four feet. The rack is designed for self-assembly with hidden fixings, and the Quick Start Guide sets out each step. Blok guarantees the furniture for two years against manufacturing or functional defects.

Is the Blok Stax 2G available as a glass hi-fi stand?

Yes. In the Black Glass / High Gloss Black finish every shelf is 10 mm tempered black glass on gloss black supports, which makes the Stax 2G a glass hi-fi rack with a sleek, reflective surface. For a warmer look, the two plywood finishes use ash veneer, black or natural, with walnut or satin white supports. Clean glass and wood with a non-abrasive cloth and avoid furniture polish.
