Where Every Stax 2G Rack Begins

The Blok Stax 2G Base is the foundation module of the Stax 2G system: a shelf on two supports, set on four adjustable feet, that carries everything stacked above. Blok rates the Base to support up to four shelves, so a rack planned around one source and one amplifier can grow into a complete system without changing the foundation.

Starting with the Base also means starting with the right finish, because every shelf added later follows the material and colour chosen here.

Feet That Find the Level

A rack is only as steady as the ground beneath, and the Base is where Blok addresses that. Four feet sit beneath the supports, each adjustable in height with the supplied Height Adjustment Tool, which fits over the foot assembly and turns to raise or lower that corner until the whole structure sits true.

Spikes for carpet arrive fitted to each foot. On a hard floor the spikes come out, and rubber feet built into each foot meet the surface instead.

Tools Designed with the Furniture

Blok’s product design team created the assembly tools alongside the furniture, so building a Stax 2G rack feels as considered as the result. The Base arrives with the Blok Assembly Tool, the Height Adjustment Tool, the Quick Start Guide, four M10 bolts, four bolt caps and the four feet, and the fixings disappear from view once the rack is built.

Isolation from the First Shelf

Silicone pads isolate the Base shelf from the supports, and further pads sit in the foot of each support, the first layer of a vibration control system that continues through every module above.

Concealed bungs in the Base supports open for an inert acoustic fill, adding mass at floor level, where the heaviest component of a system often sits.

Building Upward

Shelves in four heights, 120, 170, 220 and LP, stack above the Base in whatever order the components suggest. The Blok Stax 2G Shelf supplies each height in the same three finishes, and the ready-matched sets already include a Base: the 3-Shelf and 4-Shelf collections of the Blok Stax 2G, and the Blok Stax 2G LP Collection.

Audio Lounge can map out a rack around your components with you, and the hi-fi racks collection shows the other racks in the shop.

About Blok

In 2003 Blok set out from Saffron Walden, Essex, with a single subject: hi-fi furniture. Charles Minett, Product Design Director, has led the visual identity and mechanical engineering of every Blok product since Blok joined the Monitor Audio Group, and the Stax 2G was his team’s answer to a clear brief: give owners flexibility in configuration and materials without disturbing the clean aesthetic of the first Stax. The second generation added warm plywood to the original glass and introduced a modular system of shelves chosen by height, with every rack starting from a single Base. Explore Blok at Audio Lounge.

Questions About the Blok Stax 2G Base

What is the Blok Stax 2G Base?

The Blok Stax 2G Base is the foundation module of Blok’s Stax 2G hi-fi rack: a shelf on two supports with four height-adjustable feet. The Base carries up to four shelves by Blok’s rating, and every Stax 2G rack starts with one, including the 3-Shelf, 4-Shelf and LP Collections. Blok makes the Base in Black Glass / High Gloss Black, Black Ash Plywood / Natural Walnut and Natural Ash Plywood / Satin White.

What comes with the Base?

Two tools arrive with the Base, the Blok Assembly Tool and the Height Adjustment Tool, along with the Quick Start Guide, four feet, four M10 bolts and four bolt caps. Those tools build and level the whole rack, which is why the Base is the module that carries them.

How tall is the Base, and how much does the Base weigh?

With accessories fitted, the Base stands 107 mm tall in glass or 109 mm in plywood, on a 602 x 402 mm footprint. Blok gives the weight as 7.9 kg in glass, 4.3 kg in black ash and 4.2 kg in natural ash.

Does the Base work on carpet and on hard floors?

Yes. On carpet, the fitted spikes take the load and the feet stand 22 mm; on stone, tile or wood, the spikes come out and integrated rubber feet, standing 14 mm, rest on the surface. Either way, each foot adjusts to level the rack.

How many shelves can be built on the Base?

Four, by Blok’s rating, in any mix of 120, 170, 220 and LP heights, with 1,100 mm as Blok’s recommended ceiling for the whole rack. The Base stays at the bottom, and everything above can be rearranged.

How much weight can the Base shelf carry?

Up to 40 kg, the same rating as every Stax 2G shelf. Glass Bases use a 10 mm tempered black glass shelf, and plywood Bases a 12.8 mm ash-veneered shelf.

Can the Base supports be filled?

Yes. Each Base support holds 0.7 litres of inert acoustic material, poured in after removing the concealed rubber bung. Filling is a choice, not a requirement, and puts extra mass at the foot of the rack.

Which finish should the Base be?

The finish of the shelves planned above. Blok keeps each finish whole, so Black Glass / High Gloss Black, Black Ash Plywood / Natural Walnut and Natural Ash Plywood / Satin White shelves each need a Base in the same finish.

How is the Base levelled?

With the Height Adjustment Tool supplied with the Base. The tool fits over each foot assembly and turns to raise or lower that corner, and the Quick Start Guide makes levelling the final step, once the shelves are stacked on the Base.

How should the Base be cared for?

Use a slightly damp, clean cloth on wood, skip furniture polish, whose silicone residue alters natural veneer over time, and keep a non-abrasive cloth for glass. Ash veneer, being real wood, can shift in tone under strong sunlight. Blok’s two-year guarantee covers manufacturing or functional defects.
