Height for the Next Component

The Blok Stax 2G Shelf adds one module to a Stax 2G rack, so the furniture keeps pace with a growing system. Each Stax 2G Shelf arrives with a pair of matching supports and stacks onto any Stax 2G arrangement, which is how Blok intended the system to grow: one component, one shelf, at the height that component needs.

A new amplifier, a separate DAC or a growing record collection no longer means a new piece of furniture. The rack simply gains a level, finished to match what is already there.

Four Heights, Four Kinds of Component

Blok makes the shelf in four heights, each matched to a type of equipment. The 120 suits CD players and slim integrated amplifiers, and the 170 takes most standard components, including integrated amplifiers, network streamers, preamplifiers and DACs. The 220 is sized for AV receivers, compact systems and monoblocks, while the LP leaves room for a record collection alongside the hardware.

Choosing is simple in practice: measure the tallest component destined for the shelf, allow an air gap for anything that runs warm, and pick the height that clears both comfortably.

Finishes That Match the Rack

Every height comes in the three Stax 2G finishes, Black Glass / High Gloss Black, Black Ash Plywood / Natural Walnut and Natural Ash Plywood / Satin White, so a new hi-fi rack shelf meets the existing rack without a visible join in style. Blok keeps each finish whole, with no mixing of glass, walnut and white within one rack, so the new shelf should match the finish already in place.

Isolation and Mass in Every Module

Like every Stax 2G module, the shelf rests on silicone isolation pads whose density Monitor Audio Group’s acoustic engineers specified to a precise shore hardness, limiting the vibration that passes from one level to the next.

The supports are hollow and grow with the shelf height, from the compact 120 to the tall LP, and each can be mass-loaded through a concealed bung with an inert material, adding mass and damping wherever the equipment needs more of both.

Fitting a New Shelf

Four M10 bolts come with each shelf, and the hidden fixing system means the new module joins the stack without a visible screw. Apart from the Base, which always stays at the bottom, the shelves can be arranged in any order, and Blok sets a recommended maximum height for the finished rack, given in the answers below.

A rack begins with the Blok Stax 2G Base, or arrives ready-matched as the Blok Stax 2G 3-Shelf and 4-Shelf Collections and the Blok Stax 2G LP Collection. For help with heights and finish, Audio Lounge is ready to advise, and the hi-fi racks collection gathers every rack in the shop.

About Blok

Blok has made hi-fi furniture since 2003 and now stands among the three brands of the Monitor Audio Group, where engineering and design teams develop every Blok product in-house. For the Stax 2G system, the group’s quality department joined the project at the first design steps, checked that every supported combination of modules fits together, and ran load tests on the shelf options to the point of breaking before setting the ratings. The result is modular furniture held to the standard of a loudspeaker or an amplifier, with every Stax 2G module designed at the group’s Rayleigh headquarters in Essex. Questions About the Blok Stax 2G Shelf

What is the Blok Stax 2G Shelf?

The Blok Stax 2G Shelf is a single shelf module for the Blok Stax 2G hi-fi rack, supplied with two matching supports and four M10 bolts. Blok makes the shelf in four heights, 120, 170, 220 and LP, and in three finishes, so a Stax 2G rack can grow one component at a time. The shelf needs a Stax 2G Base or an existing Stax 2G rack beneath.

What usable height does each shelf give?

The 120 gives 120 mm of usable height, the 170 gives 170 mm, the 220 gives 220 mm and the LP gives 350 mm. With accessories fitted, the modules measure 133, 183, 233 and 363 mm tall in glass, or 135, 185, 235 and 365 mm in plywood, each on the standard 602 x 402 mm footprint.

Which equipment suits each shelf height?

Blok suggests the 120 for CD players and slim integrated amplifiers, the 170 for integrated amplifiers, network streamers, preamplifiers and DACs, and the 220 for AV receivers, compact systems and monoblocks. The LP shelf holds vinyl records alongside the system. Measure the tallest component and allow an air gap around anything that runs warm.

How much weight can a shelf hold?

Every shelf module is rated at 40 kg. The glass version uses 10 mm tempered black glass and the plywood versions 12.8 mm ash veneer over ply, and the rating followed load tests that pushed sample shelves to the point of failure.

Can I mix finishes within one rack?

Each Stax 2G finish is sold whole: glass shelves come only with gloss black supports, black ash only with walnut and natural ash only with satin white, so a new shelf should match the existing rack. All four heights are made in Black Glass / High Gloss Black, Black Ash Plywood / Natural Walnut and Natural Ash Plywood / Satin White.

How many shelves can a Stax 2G rack hold?

Up to four shelves sit on one Stax 2G Base, and Blok advises keeping the finished rack no taller than 1,100 mm. Above the Base any order works, so heights can follow the equipment rather than a fixed pattern.

Can the shelf supports be mass-loaded?

Yes. Each support hides a rubber bung that comes out for filling with an inert acoustic material. Capacity rises with height: 1.4 litres per support at 120, 2.2 litres at 170, 3.0 litres at 220 and 5.1 litres in the LP module.

Can the shelf be used without a Stax 2G Base?

The shelf belongs to the Stax 2G system rather than standing alone: each module stacks on a Stax 2G Base or on another Stax 2G module in the same finish. Blok sells the shelf to extend an existing rack, or to build one from the Base up, module by module.

What is included with each shelf?

Every shelf module arrives with two supports and four M10 bolts, and fits with the Blok Assembly Tool supplied with the Base. Once the shelf is in place, the fixings stay out of sight.

How much does each shelf weigh?

In glass, the 120 weighs 8.3 kg, the 170 8.9 kg, the 220 9.4 kg and the LP 11.2 kg. In plywood the figures are 4.6 kg, 5.2 to 5.3 kg, 5.8 to 6.0 kg and 7.5 to 7.8 kg, depending on the black ash or natural ash finish. Each shelf carries Blok’s two-year guarantee.
