Focal Bathys MG

The Focal Bathys MG explains its ambition in its name: MG denotes pure magnesium, the driver material Focal reserved for the reference Clear MG, now shaped into 40mm ‘M’-profile domes and built in the company’s Saint-Étienne workshops. Where the original Focal Bathys used an aluminium and magnesium alloy, this successor commits fully, and the reward is sound of unusual precision for a wireless design: taut, articulate bass beneath a treble of genuine finesse.

The wireless engineering matches the acoustics. Eight microphones govern the active noise cancellation, Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX Adaptive handles the everyday, and a built-in USB-DAC mode accepts high-resolution audio to 24-bit/192kHz for the moments that deserve a cable. Battery life stretches from 30 hours over Bluetooth to 42 in USB-DAC mode, with both cables supplied.

Two finishes are offered: Chestnut, the warm copper tone borrowed from the Clear MG, and the understated, mineral Graphen Grey. An aluminium and magnesium yoke keeps the 350g frame light and rigid, a genuine leather headband and deep memory-foam earpads carry it in comfort, and the backlit flame logo can glow or stay dark, as you prefer.
