ART1000X Direct Power Stereo MC Phono Cartridge
Equipped with a refined direct power system for outstanding efficiency and superb bass reproduction, Audio-Technica’s next-generation AT-ART1000X MC phono cartridge takes the engineering philosophy of its acclaimed AT-ART1000 to a new level with the aim of delivering unforgettable listening experiences every time it touches a record’s grooves. To help this Japanese-made flagship stand out from the pack, its signature direct power system places the dual moving coil directly on top of the stylus tip, thereby ensuring that the audio quality does not suffer the negative effects normally introduced by cantilever length and material type.
That’s just one of the innovative ways the reference-level AT-ART1000X excels. Having the coils move in such close proximity to the stylus tip also allows AT-ART1000X to vividly render subtle sonic details and provide stellar transient response. Furthermore, the newly developed coils are rectangular — not round — in order to position more of their surface area in the magnetic field. The result? AT-ART1000X can more accurately reproduce strong modulations, leading to improved output voltage and an expanded low-frequency range.
Featuring threaded mounting holes for easy installation to a headshell or integrated tonearm, AT-ART1000X also benefits from a titanium base. Key to achieving across-the-board playback consistency, it works in combination with a hard plastic cover and aluminum housing to disperse unwanted resonance. While the latter parts help deliver more clarity, detail, and tonality, AT-ART1000X has a special coating that protects the magnetic circuit from corrosion, lending to stalwart stability and longevity. Last but not least, AT-ART1000X retains the high-performance line contact stylus and solid boron cantilever from its predecessor to ensure an extremely accurate reading of your LP grooves.
Weighing 11 grams, every aspect of AT-ART1000X is built to audiophile specifications. Each non-magnetic core coil is constructed of 20 μm (0.79 mil) diameter PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) wire that is hand-wound eight turns to create a 1.1 mm × 0.6 mm (0.043″ × 0.024″) rectangle. The coils are contained in ultra-thin 25 μm (0.98 mil) special film and placed in the tiny 0.5 mm (0.020″) gap of a powerful magnetic circuit, enabling each coil to generate an output voltage of 0.22 mV with a coil impedance of 3.5 Ω — despite having a non-magnetic core.
