The Rega Elicit MK5 Amplifier
The Rega Aethos stereo amplifier resides in a newly crafted, custom-designed enclosure. Featuring four 160 W 16 Amp output transistors per channel, it provides a robust 156 W per channel into 6 Ω. Adopting a dual mono design, it incorporates a custom-wound toroidal transformer and regulated supplies for the amplification and driver stages. The pre-amplifier stage employs class-A discrete circuitry throughout. The Rega Aethos is a product without compromise, with a singular objective – to faithfully deliver your music.
Design Innovation
Rega’s time, effort, and financial resources have been dedicated to developing the circuit and construction, employing the highest specification of components throughout. As part of the design, useful features have been included, such as the switchable direct input and preamplifier output, allowing the new Rega Aethos amplifier to be utilised in a wide combination of systems. The headphone socket has been integrated in a manner that ensures the speaker switching is executed by the output mute relay, preventing any obstruction to the signal path and degradation of sound quality.
The design concepts that underlie the multi award-winning and highly successful Elex-R and Elicit-R have been leveraged to elevate the performance to the next level and beyond. This is achieved through a 125-watt dual mono design, featuring a fully discrete FET-based line amplifier, polypropylene capacitors throughout the signal path, K-Power reservoir capacitors, a power amplifier regulated supply, and a high current output stage consisting of four 160-watt Sanken output transistors per channel.
