Dual Concentric Precision
Tannoy invented the dual concentric speaker design in 1947, and this innovative concept has undergone continuous refinement and improvement over the decades. The SUPER GOLD series represents the very latest evolution of this acclaimed design, which has consistently garnered critical acclaim for nearly 70 years.
In the Dual Concentric design of the SUPER GOLD speakers, the woofer and tweeter are ingeniously merged together. This unique configuration aligns them on the exact same axis, achieving best-in-class phase coherence. As a result of this design, the sound originates from a single point, creating a true point-source imaging scenario. This is further enhanced by a spherical wavefront, which ensures exceptionally even dispersion both vertically and horizontally, making the SUPER GOLD’s off-axis performance extraordinary.
The listening benefits of this design are significant. The SUPER GOLD speakers offer a very wide and accurate sweetspot, which means that enjoying every single, subtle detail in the music isn’t confined to sitting dead-center in front of the speakers. This flexibility allows movement around the room or enables everyone to enjoy the music, even if they are not directly in front of the speakers.
Continuously innovating, Tannoy has further refined the dual concentric design in the SUPER GOLD series. Today, these speakers incorporate modern ferrite with copper demodulation rings and a high flux magnetic circuit, surpassing even the original 1970s Alnico design in performance.
